EARTH SCIENCES WEEK

EARTH SCIENCES WEEK

  • Earth Sciences Week 2025/26
  • Earth Sciences Week 2024/25

Earth Science Week was first celebrated in Estonia in 2019, initiated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications. It is an annual series of events that welcomes both geology enthusiasts and those less familiar with the underground world, offering insights into the wealth of resources hidden beneath our feet and the ways they can be used. Geological Survey of Estonia has been in the organizing teams since the beginning, but is the sole organizer of the event since 2024.

Rather than being limited to a single week, it brings together activities throughout the year. The three main events are:

  • a nationwide geology-themed quiz for school students (November)

  • professional training for science teachers (February)

  • student groups visits and workshops at the Arbavere Research Centre (April–May)

The aim of Earth Science Week is to bring geology closer to students through engaging activities, while also giving teachers the opportunity to deepen their knowledge on current topics related to the Earth’s subsurface.
